THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE

General Information

The NZAA holds a major conference annually, typically near the end of the year. It conducts a Two-Day Conference, often around a defining theme. This industry-specific conference is where specialist speakers (not always academics) present and discuss their work. The conference provides a very important channel for the exchange of information between all levels of arboricultural professionals.

Guest speakers from around the world are a feature. Furthermore, expert local presenters, as well as key-stakeholders, authorities or organisations within the wider arboricultural industry, are always involved in this exceptional event.

Additional, seminars or workshops are often fitted around the main conference, to supplement and enhance the variety of disciplines.

In conjunction with this event, the NZAA/STIHL National Tree Climbing Championship (NTCC) is held before or after the main Conference, normally on a weekend. Qualifying climbers from around the country compete in an attempt to win the national title in a showcase competition... and the chance to reperesent New Zealand at the ISA's 'World Champs' ITCC.

A prize-giving ceremony and dinner event is normally held on the weekend after the NTCC competition. Other, social events are also a feature, which permit delegates and participants to have some fun and relaxation, while mingling with friends, colleagues, and potential clients - creating lasting relationships throughout the arboricultural community.

Furthermore, there is a great opportunity for arboricultural suppliers and vendors, or other interested parties, to showcase their products and/or services at the wider Conference event. Trade booths/displays, present at the convention centre or the NTCC venue, bring the key representatives from all channels of the arboricultural industry — manufacturers, distributors, retailers, contractors, consultants and other service providers — together for an event designed to help improve everyone’s knowledge base of the latest, greatest and best products or services available.

Finally, the NZAA holds its Annual General Meeting during the convention - a perfect opportunity when so many Association members are present, who are normally located far and wide around the country.

NZAA/STIHL National Tree Climbing Championship (NTCC)

The NTCC has been held every year since 1994 for the Men's event, while the Women's event started in 2003.

The NTCC is increasingly gaining media and public spectator support with its stunning displays of tree climbing skills and endurance.

Currently, New Zealand climbers hold the top men’s titles from the English and Dutch competitions, as well as runner-up in the recent Australian competition and 3rd in both the Scandinavian and English championships. We also hold the top women’s title in the Australian competition and have proudly held the Womans’ International Tree Climbing Championship title (ITCC) for the last three years!
